It is formal and more long-winded than Dickens' works paid by the word , with a dry humour. I'll have to finish it later though I'm so glad I did both. I'm not sure about all the Jane Austen comparisons, but I kinda get it. Loved the self-indulgent footnotes. It makes me wish J. Rowling had done the same. Like s Sublurbanite May 02, This book was recommended to me, and I am so happy I chose to read it.

I'm not a Jane Austen fan, nor someone who reads fantasy novels, but I absolutely loved this book. The author does a fabulous job creating a robust setting for the reader and incorporating historical events to create a fiction book that is unlike any other I've read.

The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I found the ending to be a bit abrupt and personally unsatisfying. But still well worth the read.
